We are proud to present: High Resolution Vision
 |
Traditionally, eye care has only looked at lower order aberrations and tested 80% of refractive error with conventional refraction and prescription spectacle lenses. Higher Order Aberrations can make up 20% of your refractive error and result in non-optimized vision. 50% of us have an issue with this, a further 15% of us from this group have seriously compromised vision as a result of these distortions in our eyes optical system, namely the cornea and lens.
|
What can cause aberrations?
- corneal scarring with degeneration or dystrophy, dry eyes, history of hard contact lens wear, keratoconus, pterygiums
- having had RK or early LASIK
- early cataracts
- irregular retinal surface like macular edema, epiretinal membranes and macular degeneration
- having larger pupils
- medications such as anti-depressants, beta-blockers, antihistamines, nitroglycerin, etc. can cause larger pupils
- even those of us with perfect 20/20 or better uncorrected vision can have difficulty with defined vision and complain of halos, starbursts, and problems with night time driving
The Opthonix instrument is used to prescribe correction of higher order aberrations with iZon High Resolution glasses lenses. These lenses are customized to your optical fingerprint iprint and are of premium quality.
The instrument gives numerical value for spherical aberration, coma and trefoil with a low, moderate or high designation and then a total higher order aberration value, weighted according to how much the aberration would bother you. This is shown on your printout as a unique optical fingerprint of your whole refractive error for your right and left eyes. A simulation of what a night driving scene would look like for these errors is given.
Spherical aberration is described as a halo that occurs around a single point of light, such as a street lamp.
Coma looks like a comet-like trail of haze emitting from the light.
Trefoil will give distortions of light less centrally, such as peripheral scatter, star burst.
Uncorrected higher order aberrations may cause you specific symptoms: double images, lack of contrast or crispness, lack of vivid color perception, glare sensitivity, night driving problems, halos, starburst patterns, and/or comet tails around lights at night and compromised far and near vision. When these aberrations are corrected, experts believe vision as sharp as 20/8 is achievable, super vision, the best obtainable by humans. Your vision becomes like that of High Definition television technology instead of traditional television view.
Why You Need Good Sunglasses:
And your children too!
To protect your eyes against harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun which cause cataracts, macular degeneration, scar tissue on the eye, along with skin cancer and
wrinkles! Use that sunscreen and a hat or cap too. Very few contact lenses today have u.v.protection, hopefully more will be available in the future. We offer you a wide variety of sunglass looks, for all your differnt moods: from BCBG Maxzria, FUBU, Maui Jim, Valentino and more. You've got it made in the shades!

Selecting sunglasses is as inportant as vision glasses. Here are a few things to consider when choosing the best sunglasses for you. Please stop by to let us asisst you in your selection.
- The lens tint and darkness is your preference, grey for truest color rendition, amber brown for early cataracts, certain other eye conditions and glare. Back surface glare-free or mirror coatings can be used as well.
- Much more scratch-resistant coatings are available now.
- The newest, best, lens design is polarized (for horizontal glare), photochromic (so it goes from medium sunglass tint for shade to dark sunglass tint for full sun and it is made in the polycarbonate material. It is available in a variety of colors.
- Polycarbonate lenses or the new Trivex material (not glass or plastic) are impact-resistant, so should be used for all outdoor activities. Sports or safety-specific frames are now much better looking and lighter weight.
- Prescription lenses are available in progressives and sport-specific designs. Magnetic clip-on sunwear designs offer easy one handed attachment or you may choose a photochromic design lens that transforms clear, light or medium tinted lenses into sunglasses.
- Sunglasses should be large enough to give you peripheral, and vertical view protection.
- Let us demonstrate the safety and beauty of sunwear to you!
